A story about discipline and the achievement of a dream

Vicente Luque first encountered Muay Thai at the age of 15, fell in love with it, and started competing in the Brazilian Midwest. The dream to become a professional MMA fighter was born at this very time.

The passion for martial arts

Vicente Luque had his first contact with martial arts when he was three years old. At that time, encouraged by his mother, who is a black belt in Karate, he started accompanying her to the dojo, and training in the traditional Japanese martial art. However, before deciding to become a professional fighter, Vicente Luque played several sports, influenced also by his father, who played rugby for the Chilean national team in the 80s.

In Vicente´s family, sport was always perceived as a crucial component of character development, for having a set of rules that guide the individual´s ethical behavior and unwavering respect for others.

Vicente Luque has always been a fan of Kickboxing, which can be defined as a form of standup combat focusing on punching and kicking, and he views himself primarily a striker, from Muay Tai.

Fighters such as Buakaw Banchamek, Mauricio Shogun, Vitor Belfort and Wanderley Silva are Vicente´s inspiration, mainly due to their relentless pursuit of combat in the octagon and amazing knockouts. These references, added to the values instilled by sport, are very present in Vicente Luque´s life as a believer of hard work and discipline to achieving positive results. For Vicente, being a professional MMA athlete means more than a number of victories in the Octagon. It is about inspiring future generations to do good!

First professional fight

On June 27, 2009, in Brasilia-DF, at the age of 17, after much training and dedication, Vicente Luque made his debut as an MMA fighter with a win over his opponent at 2'52'' of the first round by technical knockout (TKO). Vicente Luque was thrilled with this thundering victory and, when interviewed, his words were: "This is just the beginning. As exciting as it is to win in this way, I know I have a lot of work ahead of me to achieve everything I want."

Vicente Luque quickly understood that MMA is a sport that calls for a diversified knowledge base, and that mastery of a single combat method was not enough. With this in mind, he began cross-training in multiple martial arts, evolving into the all-around MMA athlete that he is today. The new tools brought numerous victories by knockout and submission in the biggest MMA promotions in Brazil: Capital Fight, Shooto Brasil, Jungle Fight and Spartan MMA.

Getting into the ufc

As Vicente Luque accumulated experience the more eager he became to compete in the biggest MMA promotion in the world, the Ultimate Fightning Championship – UFC. This accomplishment was attained in 2015, as a result of all the work done up until then. In that year, Vicente Luque was invited to take part in The Ultimate Fighter 21: Blackzilians vs. American Top Team.

Vicente Luque earned his nickname. "The Silent Assassin". while participating in this reality show and defending the Blackzilians, owing to his quiet demeanor, intense focus, and relentless striking! His outstanding performance on the reality show was acknowledged by Dana White, president of the UFC, earning him a contract with the organization, where he fights in the welterweight division, one of the most thrilling and most disputed of the promotion.

With a career total of more than 30 fights Vicente Luque amasses remarkable numbers in the welterweight division. Having delivered 11 knockouts, 8 submissions and 13 wins within the first round. He also retains the second position in the UFC for the overall total bonuses received for performance in the octagon.
